What does a swimmer's body have to do with advertising effectiveness?

Post by sumaiyakhatun26 »

My mother always encouraged me to swim. Especially when there were championships on TV. She would point at the swimmers and say, "See how athletic they are? It's because they swim."

Mom had good intentions, but she didn't realize (and she wasn't the only one) that the reality was different. Yes, swimmers train a lot and it has a lot to do with their appearance. However, the fact that they became professional swimmers was due to the fact that nature endowed their bodies with the right predispositions, and not entirely to the number of hours spent in the pool. They have longer arms, broader shoulders. These traits allow them to succeed.

Meanwhile, we believe – we want to believe – that it was the other way around. Hence the name france rcs data “swimmer body illusion,” which refers to situations in which we confuse results with selection criteria. Without this illusion, we wouldn’t believe ads.

If we believed that we were predestined for certain things and not for others, would we try to prove otherwise? We would focus on what we have a chance to be good at. Meanwhile, advertisements make us believe that anything is possible if we just try hard enough and use the right products.
