The mountain as advertising space

Post by asimj1 »

A large Swiss cross shone on the Jungfrau face at night. The light artist Gerry Hofstetter had projected it onto the northern flank of the Jungfrau. Now the logo of the pharmaceutical multinational Bayer can also be seen. The watch brand Tissot and the clothing company Mammut also had their logos illuminated on the mountain.

The whole thing was intended as a special project for the 100th anniversary of the Jungfrau Railways. The advertisement annoyed many people. "That's the peak" was heard, and then: "A south korea rcs data mountain is not an object of advertising!" The following question seems justified to me: Can the mountains in the Jungfrau-Aletsch region (incidentally a UNESCO World Heritage Site) be misused as advertising space? The spokeswoman for the Landscape Protection Foundation told the "Bund": "It hurts to see how multinational companies degrade the magnificent mountain landscape to an advertising screen."

The 18 helicopter flights that were necessary to bring the equipment for the light installation up the mountain were also criticized: "This noise pollution could have been avoided." Artist Gerry Hofstetter defends himself: In football or ice hockey, the sponsors and advertising would be much more present. My impression: It makes sense that such an event is not possible without sponsorship. But such actions should only be possible with a special permit. If not, there is a real danger that the mountains could degenerate into advertising space. The advertising space at sporting events cannot be compared to this action, by the way. Advertising, yes, but within a regulated framework.
