WordPress 6.1 has many performance improvements across multiple components – database management, Site Health, block editor, and more.
Caching database queries
This is one of the most significant improvements in system performance.
WordPress 6.1 has added a long-awaited functionality for caching database queries (when using WP_Query ).
If a database query is executed more than once, its result will be saved and loaded from the cache.
This improvement will result in fewer database requests, faster site response, and overall faster loading times.
For sites that do not use caching plugins, the number of repeated database requests will be reduced. For sites that have a caching plugin enabled, the number of database requests will be reduced even further.
Site Health will check if caching is enabled on the site
The Site Health Analysis Tool ( Tools » Site Health ) will now perform additional checks for whether caching is enabled on the site.
There are two checks: for page caching (Full Page Cache) and for object caching (Persistent Object Cache). If Site Health does not detect these types of caching and detects slow site loading, it may recommend that they be enabled.
