Both Jenkins and Waititi admit that the romance between Steed and Ed was the real driving force behind making the show. Even so Season 1 is still a classic slow burn.
All the classic rom-com tropes are at play before the two admit their feelings for each other and kiss - with a bit of a pirate flair, of course - which is exciting because we don't usually see that in queer shows.
