Beware of ransomware

"In recent years, ransomware has been a real plague for companies, but overall in a predictable form ," said Edwin Vajdema, EMEA Field CTO, Veeam.

I believe, however, that next year we will see a significant change: ransomware will move beyond its traditional model. We expect an increase in attacks that use encryption as a distraction, while more sophisticated threats will focus on data integrity or the theft of sensitive information. Ransomware attacks require a lot of attention and resources, but this opens the door to hidden threats that can penetrate deeper into the system.

Equally concerning is the potential increase in attackers choosing to bypass the india rcs data encryption stage, simply stealing data through exfiltration and then sending ransom demands. While this method does not disrupt business operations in the same way, it is much more difficult to detect and prevent. Often, after a successful theft, attackers turn to encryption as an additional distraction, buying time to monetize the stolen data.

"Finally, my biggest concern is not related to encryption or data theft, but the possibility of attackers injecting malicious code into healthy data sets, suddenly rendering them unusable. As organizations become increasingly data-driven, such an attack would be devastating and incredibly difficult to detect. For this reason, data resilience must include a multi-layered detection system, capable of simultaneously identifying threats and preventing hidden breaches."
