Do you think you are good at managing your employees? I'm sure most bosses, when asked this question, will comment on your brilliant people management skills. But will your employees think the same?

Research has shown that many of these bosses are wrong. A Gallup study in the United States found that 50% had left their jobs to get away from their bosses and improve their lives at some point in their careers.

Poor people management skills negatively impact employee happiness and productivity, and bosses, as department representatives and company leaders, have a huge impact on all other employees.

5 questions to know if you are a good boss
Have you defined and effectively communicated your department's or company's vision and strategy?
This doesn't mean sending your team an email with a turkey number data PowerPoint or PDF containing a few keywords. It means asking them to work with you side by side to define the strategy to achieve the short- and long-term goals . The more involved they are in the project, the more committed employees will be to helping each other and always giving 100% of themselves.

Have you worked with each employee to understand the role they play in the success of the company?
According to a survey by Robert Half Management Resources , 53% of employees cannot establish a connection between their daily tasks and how they affect the company's bottom line. If you work one-on-one with all your employees, you will make them aware of the importance of their work and help them create goals that they must meet daily so that both the company and themselves always give their best.

Do you meet regularly with each employee to review their progress?
Knowing how to manage people means that you must empathize and act as a good coach or trainer. You must hold regular sessions , either monthly or bi-monthly, so that you can keep track of their progress , as well as any ups and downs you may have.

Have you given them the opportunity to succeed and be successful in a challenging job?
People want to be successful and they want to continue learning. If you don't provide them with a minimum opportunity to grow, to develop their strengths, to show what they are best at , then they are very likely to end up joining other companies.

Have you recognized them for a job well done?
This doesn't mean giving them the usual pat on the back or telling them "good job" from time to time. Recognizing their great contributions means giving visibility to all that work that no one sees and to which they dedicate so much time and effort. With this, you will be able to increase their motivation.

Many employees would rather work for a bad company with a good boss than work for a good company with a boss who is locked in a glass dome. Try to find some time and don't let administrative tasks cause your colleagues or employees to jump ship.
