Cleaning a gas water heater from scale and rust

Cleaning the igniter of a gas water heater
During operation, under normal operating conditions, the pilot light of the gas water heater requires preventive cleaning once a year or as needed. Gas combustion in the pilot group occurs according to the same principle as in the main gas burner. Air injection brings small dust particles, some of which settle on the walls of the tube, significantly narrowing the gas throughput. A weak yellow flame burning upward indicates a lack of air mixture and the presence of dust.

Why is it so important to clean the pilot light in a timely manner? The pilot rcs data of the water heater plays a significant role in the operation of the water heater. The role of the wick is to constantly heat the thermocouple and have a sufficiently long flame cone to ignite the main burner. A small flame cone will not reach the main burner, which will cause pops when turned on and a late start. An imported model of the water heater will not light if the pilot light is clogged.

Cleaning of the gas water heater igniter should be done by gas service technicians. To clean the water heater wick, remove the casing, disassemble and extract the igniter group. Wash the tube and filter with clean running water, or use a dry rag if there is no water. If a clogged nozzle is detected, unscrew and blow it out. After preventive cleaning, check the operation of the igniter group and the correct combustion of the gas (blue cone washing the thermocouple).

When using a gas water heater for a fairly long time in conditions of increased lime content in water, it is necessary to take into account the factor that accelerates the wear of the heat exchanger and reduces the established service life of the water heater - scale. Scale deposits on the radiator walls significantly reduce heat transfer, reduce the water heating coefficient, throughput, and are considered a malfunction.

Fighting scale is useless, but its formation can be reduced to a minimum by increasing the speed of water flow. Take a shower or wash dishes without mixing cold water. Cold water wedges into the flow of hot water, diluting and delaying it. Temperature adjustment should be made by the adjusting selector on the column itself.
