With exports doubling in 2021 and domestic trade growing exponentially, the Abegoaria Group, which produces dozens of renowned wine brands from the various demarcated regions, is increasing its investment in technology and now has management support information at the click of a button.

This business group, made up of 15 companies that produce leading wine brands such as Portal de São Braz, Piteira, Maria Ana, Granja Amareleja, Abelharuco and Fonte da Perdiz, as well as a vast portfolio of wines, olive oils, sausages and cheeses, has been supporting business management using the Evolution Primavera ERP since 2014, and has been continuously evolving its management processes through digitalisation ever since.

We are currently developing an NLP (Profit and Loss) application that will take data from the Evolution Primavera ERP and present a complete x-ray of the parameters that we want to analyze minute by minute, on a mobile device with internet access.

In a group that presents a verticalized production model, covering all stages of the production process, from production itself, through transformation, to sales to retailers, robustness and integration capacity are critical factors and it was precisely for this reason that they chose Primavera technology.

At the moment, all raw material purchasing, processing, packaging and distribution operations are controlled from the Evolution Primavera ERP, with the support of some auxiliary systems, with the integration of a new company in the group - Vidigal Wines - which has a turnover of around 15 million euros - planned for the near future.

However, this new integration does not bring any insecurity to the group's information systems director, Marco Sequeira. " Since 2014, we have been managing the entire business based on Primavera. This ERP is the engine that generates all the information to support management, from a more global and consolidated view of the group to a micro view of a specific component of a product, integrating information from various systems, from the production system to the GS1 system, including a picking system. We are confident that the integration of the new company will go well ," explains the manager.

Traceability, a decisive factor for quality
In a group that works towards certification and that recently integrated a new company that holds the rare international IFS FOOD certification, awarded by Bureau Veritas, traceability is absolutely crucial. In the Evolution Primavera ERP, they found this rigor in traceability, which allows them to go to a level of detail that is essential to guarantee the desired quality control.

In this regard, CEO Manuel Bio says, " We have a very verticalized business, we cannot take things easy. When there is a problem with olive oil, for example, we have to know the origin of the problem and today we can go exactly to the plot/batch where the problem originated. The same goes for wine, which has more complex traceability due to the use of support products such as preservatives and filters, which have to be tracked. The system allows us to go back and find this information with complete accuracy . "

Alongside quality control, traceability from a cost perspective is also essential for rigorous management control. " We need accurate information to be able to define the correct strategy in line with the group's objectives ", adds the CEO.

Reliability of information and continuous updating

The volume of data generated by the 15 companies is very high, so the central management system needs to be robust and guarantee high performance. Marco Sequeira also highlights the continuous evolution of the system and the high value of tax updates. The digital journey has been underway for several years at the Abegoaria Group and is not expected to stop any time soon.
