What is Digital Transformation?

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry describes digital transformation as follows in 　Chapter 1 of the Report of Working Group 1 of the Study Group for Accelerating Digital Transformation , published in December 2020:

Digital transformation is the process of becoming a digital enterprise . In other words, digital transformation is how you cross the river, not the world on the other side of the river.

DX is an initiative, not a goal. It is a process leading to a goal. The goal of DX is for existing companies to become digital enterprises.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry student database states the following in the book:

As changes in customers and markets accelerate, companies that can adapt their business strategies and IT systems quickly and flexibly are called digital enterprises . They will expand their digital business by utilizing data, which is increasing in both volume and variety.

A digital enterprise is a company that has the ability to combine technological elements such as the processing and analysis of large amounts of data that has now become possible to collect, to secure a competitive business advantage, and to integrate them into existing business models or create entirely new models .
