Although it may sound incredible, it is true: the sex toy brand we-vibe will have to pay approximately 7,000 euros to each of the users of its vibrators, after it was found that the device "spied" on the activities of its owners and collected information without their authorization or knowledge.
The We-vibe 4 plus reference incorporates a Bluetooth connection and can be controlled through an application, which allows its remote activation, in order to be able to use the device in games or couple activities, up to there there is no problem, however due to the lack of security in the application, it allowed the device to be controlled by ios database who was within the range of action of the Bluetooth signal.
Additionally, the device generates and collects information about, for example, the intensity of the vibration used or the temperature of the device, which was sent to Standard Innovation , giving this company a profile of the intimate preferences of users.
The complaint about the flaws or vulnerabilities was made last year at Def Con, where hackers Goldfish and Follower made this considerable situation known. This information led to users in the United States filing a class action lawsuit against Standard Innovation, the parent company behind the We-vibe vibrator, which after the resolution, must compensate each of the owners who purchased the application to be able to use the device remotely.
Finally, Standard Innovation has stated in a statement: “At Standard Innovation we take customer privacy and data security seriously. We have improved privacy, increased the security of the app, given our users more options when sharing data and we will continue to work with leading privacy and security experts to improve the app.”
